Gymnastics invitational competition results

by isleofman.com 14th November 2007
There was some tremendous gymnastics at this weekend's Isle of Man invitational competition featuring gymnasts from the north-west, Yorkshire and the south-east of England.

The under 11 competition was won by a strong East London A team. The Island A and B teams of Gabriella Hay, Sophie Fletcher, Chloe Whittaker and Emily Dale Beeton and Aoife Donnelly, Tara Donnelly, Zoe Jones, Ciara Goddard and Ellie Gilson were unfortunately weakened by sickness but gave their best to finish 8th & 6th respectively.

The under 13 competition saw the Isle of Man A pipped to first place by Garstang. The team of Samantha Crowe, Emily Munro, Sophie Kneen, Rebecca Johnson and Kaitlin Kneen performed strongly with particularly pleasing performances on beam. Kaitlin took a silver medal on beam and bronzes on bars and floor. Rebecca picked up a bronze for vault. The Island's B team of Elisha Gilbertson, Charlotte Knowles, Daisy McGarrigle, Nicole Burns & Holly Black came home seventh.

The FIG competition resulted in a victory for Manx Gymnastics' Olivia Curran despite being pushed extremely hard by club mate Sapphire Scott in second. Paige King of Garstang took the overall bronze medal, with Island gymnasts Grae Harrison and Lyndsey Beynon also getting a valuable run-out ahead of the upcoming Challenge Cup competition in Aldershot.
