Island remembers the fallen

The Isle of Man paid silent tribute to its war dead today, 89 years after the ending of the First World War.

The Lieutenant Governor, Vice-Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks, attended a church service at St Thomas' in Douglas this morning, then led the wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial on the town's promenade.

His Excellency was also at this afternoon's National Service of Remembrance at the Royal Chapel in St John's.

Archdeacon Brian Smith had a prominent role in the ceremony at Douglas war memorial (audio file attached):
