Bell defends performance of DHSS

The present and future ability of the DHSS to provide front-line services in the Isle of Man was the subject of an extended discussion during question-time in the House of Keys today.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson wanted to know whether Treasury would prioritise the health and social security budget over other departments, to make sure public demand could continue to be met.

Treasury Minister Allan Bell (pictured) assured the House essential health services would continue to be maintained and developed, as long as the Island's economy and tax revenues allowed it.

And he refuted Mr Henderson's claims that waiting lists were increasing unchecked and the DHSS was already struggling to meet the needs of a growing local community:
