Manx rivers in good condition

The Isle of Man's rivers have been given a clean bill of health by the Department of the Environment.

Water quality monitoring carried out by the government laboratory shows 98 per cent of the Island's waterways were classed as fair or above average during 2006.

Environment Minister John Shimmin says the results are much better than in England and Wales, making Manx rivers some of the cleanest in the British Isles.

However, his department can’t take the credit for the Island's sparkling streams (audio file attached):
