GP surgery petition handed over

The Health Minister says he wants to avoid 'knee-jerk reactions' after plans to build a GP surgery in Kirk Michael were halted.

Michael MHK David Cannan and the village commissioners today presented a 300-strong petition to Eddie Teare from village residents opposing the decision.

Mr Cannan is unhappy the scheme, which gained Tynwald approval during Steve Rodan’s time as Health Minister, was pulled, despite proposals reaching the planning stage.

Mr Teare has stressed his department can't afford to set up a surgery at the moment but says the demands on the department’s budget will be revisited at the next budget (audio file attached):
