The case of a Foxdale woman who denies a charge of driving without due care and attention will continue at Douglas Courthouse today.
Patricia Power was involved in an accident on the Ballamodha Straight last November, in which a 47 year old Port Erin man, John James Hughes, was killed.
Edward Oldham reports (text, below, from attached audio file):
Yesterday the court heard Mr Hughes had overtaken a car in a 'controlled manner' on the Ballamodha.
Dr Chris Jagus, who was driving the car, said he saw two pairs of headlights side by side, coming in the opposite direction, had lost sight of Mr Hughes but then heard a loud bang and assumed there had been an accident.
The defence asked yesterday's last witness, PC Richard Kennish of the Roads Policing Unit, whether a hidden dip sign on the north side of the road had been put there because of the accident, saying it was quite a coincidence it appeared there two weeks after.
Mr Kermode also asked why there weren't solid white lines on that section of road, to prevent cars overtaking in the so called 'zone of invisibility'.
PC Kennish said he couldn't comment on the reasons for the sign's introduction and didn't feel white lines were necessary there as long as drivers exercised reasonable care.
Today will see a number of prosecution witness statements read out before the defence calls its witnesses.
The case is due to continue at 10 o' clock this morning.
