MLC rebukes senior civil servant

by isleofman.com 30th October 2007
A member of the Legislative Council has issued a public rebuttal to a senior civil servant, accusing him of failing to respect the wishes of Tynwald.

Eddie Lowey has criticised Director of Highways Bruce Hannay for comments he made on Manx Radio, after a proposed road scheme at Governor's Bridge was withdrawn.

Mr Hannay was clearly disappointed the scheme was not voted through.

But Mr Lowey says it's not Mr Hannay's place to comment on the decisions of politicians.

He says civil servants should remember their job is carry out the wishes of parliament (audio file attached):

Eddie Lowey was speaking to Manx Radio's Senior Political Correspondent, David Callister, on Agenda).
