Concern over long-term unemployed

A recent Council of Ministers meeting raised concerns about the number of people who're classed as long-term unemployed in the Isle of Man.

Current figures show there are 593 unemployed people, with around 70 to 80 of them having been out of work for 12 months or more.

There are around 600 available jobs but the DTI's Deputy Chief Executive, Mark Kelly, says it's not a case of simply putting anyone into these positions.

He says the most important issue is to break the cycle, which is something the DTI can help people with (audio file attached):
