Douglas man dies from drugs overdose

by isleofman.com 25th October 2007
A man found in the stairwell of a Douglas property died from a drugs overdose, an inquest has heard.

Twenty-seven year-old Peter James Egan was discovered at the former Westside Hotel on Mona Drive on October the 13th.

A post mortem investigation found evidence of illicit use of intravenous drugs with recent needle tracks - consistent with heroin use.

Kate Skinner reports (audio file attached):

Morphine, codeine and cannibinoids were found in Mr Egan's system and his blood alcohol level was 211 milligrames.

It's thought Mr Egan, who was unemployed and of no fixed abode, was visiting friends at the property.

Police inquiries are also being carried out into how Mr Egan came to have the drug.

The coroner Michael Moyle did not release the body but told police he was anxious to get matters resolved.

He said anyone who thinks there isn't a drugs problem in the Isle of Man is a 'fool'.
