A 17 year old man who assaulted a newsagent has been jailed by the High Bailiff for a total of three months.

The sentence included the activation of 30 days of a 40 day suspended sentence.

James Mark Corrin of Rheast Barrule, Castletown, appeared for sentence after admitting handling stolen goods, using threatening, abusive or insulting words, provoking behaviour and common assault.

The defendant assaulted Simon Gardner who was working in Newby's newsagent on Ballaquayle Road. He was headbutted by Corrin who was said to be acting in a reckless manner. He was also abusive to Mr Gardner.

Corrin also admitted handling alcohol knowing it to be stolen from Tescos.

At 2.30 am on September 2nd the defendant was arrested in Castle Street for shouting abuse and obscenities at a group of men. His advocate Ian Kermode said the headbutt was not deliberate it was more of a squaring up.
