Waste reduction a priority

Local supermarkets are pledging a commitment to reducing unnecessary packaging.

In the United Kingdom there is a bill going through parliament which may mean supermarkets have to dispose of excess wrapping at their own cost.

Here Marks and Spencer, Shoprite and Tesco all say they are taking the initiative to examine their packaging to make it more environmentally friendly.

Zero Waste Mann Spokesperson Muriel Garland says she welcomes this promise, but also believes more recycling opportunities need to be provided on the Island (audio file attached):
