Major boost to scallop stocks

An annual survey has revealed a scallop bed off the West coast that's significantly denser than any other, seen anywhere around the island for over 20 years.

In that time the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has commissioned a pre-season survey of Manx scallop beds - both to build up a pool of historical data and also to give an indication of likely catch rates.

It doesn't mean a bumper haul THIS season though, as the new bed consists of juveniles which will need another year or two to mature.
