A ramblers' pressure group says it will continue to campaign for rights of way around Langness, despite four sheep being killed - apparently by dogs let off their leads.

PRoWL - or Public Rights of Way Langness - says it deplores the incident on land owned by Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, when four sheep were chased into the sea.

But the group says it won't be diverted from its aim of getting designated public rights of way on the peninsula.

The attack was discovered by the farmer who grazes his sheep on the Clarksons land.

The TV presenter condemned irresponsible dog owners for a previous attack on sheep shortly after he and his wife moved to the Lighthouse Cottages.

And tensions deepened when the couple diverted a small section of the coastal path, to ensure their privacy.

In a statement PRoWL extends its sympathy to the farmer but describes the incident as a regrettable diversion from its principled campaign to see public access to all of the area restored.

It says it won't be diverted from making its case - and calls on the government to find a swift resolution
