New deal for farmers

Manx farmers are being consulted by the Departure of Agriculture on draft countryside management guidelines which could form the basis for all Government support payments in the future.

It would mean a complete change to the regulation and subsidy of the agricultural industry, rewarding good practice and stewardship of the land rather than paying farmers to produce food that ISN'T in demand.

DAFF Minister Phil Gawne says the industry won't be surprised by the Cross Compliance Standards:
