Centre of capital is 'run-down'

Businessmen visiting the Isle of Man are not impressed with the centre of Douglas, according to Treasury Minister Allan Bell.

In Tynwald this afternoon claimed the Island's capital had a run-down market town image and that vibrant regeneration in Jersey was leaving the Isle of Man 'in the dust'.

Mr Bell (pictured) urged the Department of Transport to rapidly complete the North Quay enhancement scheme.

He also said the town's South Quay was a major eyesore and urgently needed to be redeveloped:
