Caution over demolition plans

Former MLC and Ramsey MHK Leonard Singer is urging caution over plans to demolish the Grand Island Hotel.

Proposals were announced earlier this month to pull down the hotel and replace it with 68 apartments in three blocks.

In a separate application the same company, Seymar Developments, is seeking permission for a 30 bedroom hotel and 96 apartments on Mooragh Promenade.

Mr Singer says any development in Ramsey is welcome and needed, but wants guarantees a new hotel will be built, before the Grand Island disappears (audio file attached):
