IRIS crisis talks

Aspects of the IRIS scheme have come in for stinging criticism from MHKs during today's Tynwald sitting.

Malew and Santon MHK Graham Cregeen hit out at what he called the "disgraceful" treatment of his constituents, who he said had been subjected to horrendous smells from sludge pellets and pumping stations

He also called for the many consultants and experts who've been used over the project's lifetime to be held accountable for recommendations which have led to errors and further expense.

North Douglas MHK John Houghton agreed with Mr Cregeen about the consultants, saying as recently as this spring they'd sent the court "awry" by still stating the IRIS Masterplan was workable.

But East Douglas MHK and former Transport Minister Phil Braidwood gave his wholehearted backing of the scheme and said changes were down to advances in technology:
