King of the Isle of Man?

A fascinating claim - but historically wrong.

That's the verdict of a renowned Manx historian to claims by Londoner David Drew Howe that he is the rightful heir to the title King of the Isle of Man.

Mr Howe (pictured) says he is a direct descendant of the Stanley family - who ruled the Island as Kings.

But the claims have been rejected by historian Derek Winterbottom, who says the grant made to the Stanleys was reversed - when the Island was effectively sold back to England in 1598.

Derek says this happened ten years after the Spanish Armada when England was in crisis:
