Blood poisoning after operation

by isleofman.com 16th October 2007
Inquiries are continuing into the death of a 73 year old Douglas woman who suffered blood poisoning after an operation at Noble’s Hospital.

Coroner of inquests Michael Moyle said statements from staff at the hospital needed to be taken before a full hearing could take place.

Doris Irene Quayle, of South Quay died on September 29 after an operation for cancer of the colon.

The court heard the retired receptionist had died from septicemia following peritonitis.

Jason Roberts reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

After her death, Mrs Quayle was identified by her son Andrew David Quayle, a company director living in Preston.

The hearing was told she died a short time after her operation and more medical evidence was needed to decide whether a full hearing was necessary.

Mr Moyle said this might take some months as staff were spoken to by his officers but he assured the family this would be done as quickly as possible.

He released Mrs Quayle’s body for burial and adjourned the inquest to a date to be set.
