Advice on dangers of Carbon Monoxide

by isleofman.com 16th October 2007
Firefighters in the Isle of Man are taking part in a national campaign this week to warn people of the unseen dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning in the home.

In the last 12 months in the United Kingdom, 42 people have died and a further 177 have suffered injuries in incidents involving the gas.

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week will alert people to the potential of unseen dangers from flues and fossil fuels, and householders are being advised to ensure gas and oil appliances are serviced regularly by qualified boiler engineers, and chimneys are swept.

Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include severe headaches, chest or stomach pains, drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, general lethargy and impaired mental ability.
