Dreemskerry - new plans submitted

by isleofman.com 8th October 2007
A company hoping to redevelop Dreemskerry Quarry has made another planning application for the site.

CEMEX Island Aggregates wants to extract building stone from the quarry in Maughold.

Last month, CEMEX was told it couldn’t appeal against planning refusal because of a technical mistake on the forms it filled in.

But the company says its new application addresses a number of points.

Jason Roberts reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

In a statement, CEMEX Island Aggregates says the minerals at the quarry are essential to meet the Island’s demand for building materials.

It says redeveloping an existing quarry will have less impact on the environment than creating a new site, and there are proposals to lessen the impact on Maughold with landscaping.

Managing Director Mike Shaw says the application is extremely detailed and thorough but he expects to have full discussions with interested parties.

The planning committee is expected to consider the new plans in the near future.
