EMI unit will go ahead

by isleofman.com 5th October 2007
An elderly mentally infirm unit is to be built in Farmhill in Douglas, subject to Tynwald approval.

The plans were put on hold earlier this year due to a lack of funding but the Department of Health has now announced the 32-bed ?4.2 million facility will go ahead, if Tynwald appvoes the scheme at this month’s sitting.

The building, which will be constructed alongside 21 homes by developer Heritage Homes, will also provide facilities for day care and additional respite care.

The mental health day centre, which is currently located at Cronk Coar, in Ballamona, will be transferred to this new facility once it is opened.

It will be opened in two phases with Douglas residents, who have been temporarily cared for in Southlands, able to move back.
