New IRIS scheme is cheaper, say consultants

Consultants have recommended that the IRIS scheme be sliced into 'regional works' for the North and West.

It would be a cheaper option, Tynwald members will be told.

At the same time, members will be asked for an addition ?6.5 million for Meary Veg and another ?2.5 million to buy properties affected by the vibration problem at White Hoe pumping station.

The money for Meary Veg is for 'unforseen conditions on site', delays, disruptions, commissioning costs and 'a concilliation figure of ?1.25 million, reached with the contractor'.

The IRIS update report comes from independent consultants, Mouchel Parkman of Liverpool.

Transport Minister David Anderson says the savings mooted are attractive:
