New disabled workshop

The new Manx Workshop for the Disabled has been officially opened by Health Minister Eddie Teare.

The keys for the facility at the old Noble's Hospital were handed to chairman of the charity, Deemster Jack Corrin, at a ceremony yesterday (Wed).

The workshop's future was in doubt after concerns about funding and its premises emerged, and following political debate, a Tynwald select committee was set up to look into the issues.

A new site was found on Ballakermeen Road, and was refurbished through eighty thousand pounds from the DHSS and ?65,000 donated by the public and charitable trusts.

Deemster Corrin says the saga captured the public's interest and he hopes attitudes are changing:
