Flap-gate work starts tomorrow

by isleofman.com 2nd October 2007
Modification works on the Peel Harbour flap-gate are due to start tomorrow.

The swing bridge will be closed to pedestrians over the next week and the scheme will be carried out during daytime low water periods, when the flap-gate would normally be raised.

Preparations will start at 12 noon and the work should ensure any build-up of water in the inner harbour, due to heavier than normal rainfall, is reduced.

It should also enable the flap-gate to operate for all states of the tide.

Vessel owners wishing to pass through the flap-gate opening should contact Peel Harbour Office on 842338 during normal daytime operational hours, or VHF Ch12.

They can also ring Douglas Harbour Control on 686628 at all other times, for further information such as gate opening times.

Work was postponed last month following advice from the Met Office.
