Gynaecology waiting list cut

by isleofman.com 29th September 2007
There's good news for women in the Island waiting to see a consultant gynaecologist.

Waiting times for an outpatient appointment are to be cut - thanks to the expansion of the gynaecology clinic at Ramsey Cottage Hospital.

The number of patients seen per session will more than double: from eight - to 20.

Increasing the use of the dedicated clinic at Ramsey should have a direct impact on waiting times - currently up to 18 weeks to see a consultant gynaecologist.

It's for all-Island use - and if offered an appointment, patients are encouraged to take the opportunity to attend the Ramsey clinic earlier than they would be seen at Noble's Hospital.

If patients have no preference, GPs will be asked to refer them simply to 'the consultant gynaecologist' - so women are seen by the consultant with the shortest waiting list.

The move is part of the development of services in the Women and Children's health directorate.

The DHSS minister Eddie Teare has described women's health in the Isle of Man as of paramount importance to the department.
