Ramsey B win friendly

by isleofman.com 29th September 2007
There was an entertaining friendly match at the Mooragh Park after the scheduled Shield match was postponed.

Douglas B combined with a few spare Ramsey players to form a side to play Ramsey B.

Douglas took an early lead through veteran centre John Ledwidge.

Dave Ford added Douglas’ second after a period of sustained pressure on the Ramsey line and, as half time approached, Will Keenan picked and drove from the base of the scrum to give Douglas a handy looking 15-0 advantage.

However, Ramsey hit back in the second half.

Full back Al Christian slipped through some poor tackling to get his side off the mark.

James Wren converted to make it 15-7 and then hooker Mickey Melvin pounced on a fluffed clearance kick for a try which reduced the Douglas lead to just three points.

Ramsey now had their tails up and were buzzing all round the Douglas twenty two.

Wren almost wriggled over but, when he was halted just inches short, Christian picked and went from the base of the ruck to put Ramsey ahead 17-15.

The Douglas legs were tiring by this stage and in the closing minutes Henry Doran ran though the Douglas back line for a well taken solo try, which was converted by Wren, to make the final score 24-15.
