Major gas leak in Peel

There was a major gas leak in Peel this evening (Friday).

Roads around Rheast Lane and Queen’s Drive were closed to traffic and a number of people were evacuated from their homes after a damaged gas main in Rheast Lane at the point which junctions Peel Golf Club.

The area was secured until the gas authorities repaired the damage.

Further works are required and until this is carried out tomorrow (Saturday), access to Rheast Lane from Douglas Road will be for residents only.

From Queen’s Drive, access will be for residents and those wishing to access the golf club.

Full repairs should be completed tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Victoria Road in Douglas was closed for around an hour and a half at teatime following a house fire in Woodville Terrace.

Residents in the house at the time of the blaze escaped unhurt.
