Youth clubs increasingly popular

The Department of Education's Youth Service seems to be attracting more of the Island's youngsters.

The latest figures collected by staff at its clubs and centres show it's made well over 1,000 more contacts than last year.

Membership of the 22 youth clubs has risen to over 1,000 and at least 31 per cent of 13-19 year olds are involved with the youth clubs.

The service is hoping to provide a facility in the main shopping area of Douglas, where young people can meet after school and at weekends.
