MAIB report - MP 'concerned'

A Liverpool MP says she is encouraged by the recommendations in the report into the Sea Express 1 collision.

Louise Ellman, who represents the Riverside constituency, hopes all those involved will learn lessons and do everything possible to avoid a similar occurance in the future.

The fast craft sustained serious damage in a collision with the bulk carrier Alaska Rainbow, in thick fog, in the River Mersey on February 3rd.

Mrs. Ellman says people found it hard to understand how the accident happened, but she's pleased some of the suggestions of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch have already been adopted by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company and Steam Packet:
