Geoff Cannell passes away

by isleofman.com 25th September 2007
It is with great sadness we have to report the death of a broadcasting legend.

Former Manx Radio News and Sports Editor Geoff Cannell has passed away.

He was taken ill yesterday lunchtime after what is believed to have been a heart attack.

Geoff began his career in the media as a print compositor with the old Times newspaper before moving to the Mona's Herald. He also worked for a period with the Tourist Board and is a former M.H.K. for Onchan.

Geoff is most famous for his T.T. commentaries from out on the course, in pitlane and from the Grandstand Tower.

He was 65 years old and leaves wife Lynda and daughter Zoe.

Tim Glover has been talking to Geoff's first cousin Roy Moore, who says the very sad news came right out of the blue (audio file attached):

Manx Radio offers condolences and thoughts to Lynda and Zoe.
