A verdict of accidental death has been recorded at the inquest of a 28 year old Onchan man, who died when his car went out of control on the Ballahutchin in Union Mills.

Coroner of Inquests, Alistair Montgomerie, said the evidence presented to him suggested David Manley had been driving too fast at the time.

He lost control of his Mitsubishi Evo 9 during an overtaking manoeuvre on the evening of September 10.

Statements from the driver of the BMW Mr Manley was overtaking and the scooter rider travelling in the opposite direction suggested he had been travelling at 90 to 100mph.

He had gone to pass the BMW but not noticed the scooter, and when he did he attempted to pull back onto his side of the road and lost control.

Investigations by a Police Collision Investigator confirmed this scenario.

The scooter rider, 17 year old Larissa McColgan from Peel said Mr Manley's car only just missed her and she was left extremely shaken by the incident.

It was revealed Mr Manley was thrown from his car during the accident, after it hit a telegraph pole and crossed the road airborne before landing in a house's garden.

He died from multiple injuries to his head and body.

Mr Montgomerie said neither the driver of the BMW, nor Miss McColgan could be found in any way to blame for the accident.
