Anniversary at Groudle

by isleofman.com 14th September 2007
The 25th anniversary of the Groudle Glen Railway restoration is being celebrated this weekend, and the public is invited to join in the fun.

Known as 'the line that goes uphill to the sea', the railway is operated entirely by volunteers and owned by the Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters' Association.

One of the founder volunteers, Tony Beard, says locals and tourists remain fascinated by the Groudle story (audio file attached):

Sunday's 25th Anniversary Day starts at 12 noon with the unveiling of a plaque by Anne Craine, MHK, of the Manx Heritage Foundation and the official opening of the new engine shed. There will also be a trip to the tea rooms at Sea Lion Rocks (pictured).
