IOM presence at arms fair

by isleofman.com 14th September 2007
A Ballasalla based company has been showing off its products at the United Kingdom's largest arms fair.

Milpolice produces extendable batons and spikes for deflating tyres, as well as training items for the world’s military forces.

The company has been at the Defence Systems and Equipment International fair at the Excel conference centre in London, a bi-annual event which showcases the cutting edge of military technology.

Among those invited to the fair by the UK government are the Chinese, Indonesian and Colombian governments.

Jason Roberts reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Milpolice describes itself as the premier manufacturer and supplier of innovative solutions to operational, tactical and training requirements for police and military organisations within Europe and beyond.

At the fair, it’s showing off replicas of suicide bomber belts to train soldiers how to deal with the threat.

Also on display is the company’s range of mock improvised explosive devices, designed to mimic those used by insurgents in places like Iraq. The simulated IEDs are used to train combat forces.

Managing Director Stephen Blakeley says he doesn’t want to comment on the company’s presence at the fair.
