Foot and mouth advice from DAFF

by isleofman.com 14th September 2007
The Department of Agriculture has issued advice to farmers and walkers following the latest foot and mouth outbreak in Surrey.

It says although the prevention of livestock movement is unnecessary due to the ongoing imports ban, the situation will be under constant review.

The department also advises farmers to review livestock practices in a bid to improve herd health in the future. These include keeping gates shut, providing a postbox and keeping boots and equipment clean when visiting other farms.

Footpaths will remain open but restrictions may be put in place again depending on the situation in the UK.

Walkers are asked to ensure their footwear is clean, to avoid straying onto grazing land, to not walk among or touch livestock, to keep dogs on leads around livestock and use any disinfectants put in place by landowners.
