Prison building handed over

by isleofman.com 7th September 2007
The Department of Home Affairs has announced the early handover of part of the new prison at Jurby.

It was agreed last Tuesday, August the 28th, that the Works Department Building was sufficiently complete to be taken on by the Isle of Man Prison Service.

The ?1 million building, which includes office space, storage areas and a training suite, will be the base for six prison staff and contractors working on the site, along with prisoners who're employed under Works Department supervision on maintenance duties.

Home Affairs member, George Waft MLC, is pleased at the progress and says the early possession marks the beginning of the end of the construction phase of the new prison, which is due for completion and handover to the department later this year.
