Minister says 'no' to truanting plans

Plans in the United Kingdom to fine parents of truanting pupils would not work in the Isle of Man.

That's the view of the Island's Education Minister Anne Craine.

It's been widely reported in the United Kingdom press that parents would be penalised if they didn't look after their children for the first five days after being excluded from school.

It's to prevent youngsters treating exclusion as a holiday.

Mrs Craine (pictured) says the scheme is fraught with difficulties and would not be practical:
