Public warned about scammers

by isleofman.com 5th September 2007
Members of the public are being warned about gangs of Eastern European travellers, after the Island was targeted for the second time in six months.

The Office of Fair Trading says police and Trading Standards enforcement officers caught up with the alleged fraudsters in Peel after members of the public reported being harassed by them.

After being told their behaviour could lead to action being taken, the gang went straight to the Sea Terminal and left on the next ferry.

The OFT's Chief Inspector of Trading Standards, John Peet, says they'll continue to tackle these gangs, with the help of the police, to send out a clear message that scams like these won't be tolerated in the Isle of Man.
