BBC DJ and presenter Andy Kershaw was released from custody when he appeared in court this morning.

Mr Kershaw, who lives in Shore Road, Peel, was remanded to the Island's prison at the end of last week, accused of breaking an order preventing him from making any contact with his former partner.

But today the Deputy High Bailliff, Alistair Montgomerie, released him on ?2,000 bail, with strict conditions.

Graham Bell reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Several conditions were applied to Mr Kershaw's bail.

He must not enter the Ballawattleworth Estate or Bridge Street, Castle Street, Christian Street or Walpole Road in Peel.

He must also stay away from Marine Parade, apart from to gain entrance to his property in Shore Road, but even then he must be in a vehicle.

Mr Kershaw must also keep a curfew between 9pm and 7am, except if he is required for his lifeboat duties, stay out of on-licence premises and reside at his address in Shore Road.

He was also told to seek referral for medical assistance.
