League support TASER gun

by isleofman.com 3rd September 2007
The Celtic League have come out in support of the TASER stun gun.

Their use has been criticised by Civil Liberties groups recently, including respected organisations such as Amnesty International, who believe the devices are 'brutal' and not safe.

More concern has now been raised after it was announced that their deployment was to be extended across Britain, and they could be used by officers who weren't trained to handle firearms.

On the Island the TASER is available to officers but has never been used.

The League say they supported the introduction of the TASER in Wales and the Isle of Man, and they see it as a more suitable protective alternative to deploying officers with firearms.

They believe it is highly unlikely that officers who are inadequately trained would ever be allowed to use the TASER guns, and suggest that until a better alternative to firearms is found, use of devices such as these by suitably trained officers seems a prudent step to protect both the public and police officers.
