Increase in cost of electricity

Electricity prices in the Isle of Man go up by 6.9% this weekend.

The increase follows Tynwald’s rescue plan for the MEA, which recommended rises be kept to inflation plus 2.5%.

MEA Chairman Eddie Teare says the increase will be offset by the removal of the fuel cost adjustment, which was brought in last year to cover big rises in natural gas prices.

He says they've been able to do this by buying gas in advance:
