'Firearm' was a BB gun

by isleofman.com 30th August 2007
Police have revealed a person arrested for carrying a firearm in Douglas yesterday evening was a 15 year old boy with a BB (ball bearing) gun.

Officers were called after a member of the public spotted him on Circular Road.

The boy was taken to Police Headquarters and has now been released on bail He's not been charged at this time and enquiries are continuing.

Acting Inspector Phil Shimmin says even trained police officers have great difficulty distinguishing the guns from actual firearms, adding there's a real risk of someone being shot by armed officers who're unable to establish the exact nature of the weapon.
