Tynwald Select Committee on Braddan

by isleofman.com 30th August 2007
Senior and former staff at the Department of Local Government and the environment will be giving evidence to a Tynwald select committee today (Thurs).

The committee is investigating the affairs of Braddan Commissioners and the evidence is being heard in public in the Millennium Room at Government Offices.

Manx Radio's political correspondent David Callister (pictured) says the investigation came about following two possibly unrelated events - the first of which was comment made in a report of an enquiry instigated by DoLGE,and carried out by chartered accountant Roger Rawcliffe.

This was primarily into pension arrangements made with the Clerk of the Commissioners Charles Lewin: (audio clip)

The second element came after a formal challenge to the emerging Braddan plan from a parish resident Jack McInny. He claimed the plan process could be invalidated because the principal planning officer working on the plan, Sarah Corlett, lived in Braddan.

Former director of planning Barry Vannin, current director Ian McCauley, former DLGE chief executive Anthony Hamilton and planning officer Sarah Corlett are due to appear today.

The committee started hearing evidence at 10.30am.
