Biodiversity Action Plan needed

The Island is being left behind in tackling declining biodiversity.

It's recently been revealed in the UK that supposedly common species such as hedgehogs, harvest mice, Mountain Hares and sparrows are all included on a list of wildlife in danger in the UK.

They are just a small part of the 1,149 species which are included on the revised list for the UK's Biodiversity Action Plan which is used to decide which species and habitats should be targeted for conservation work in an effort to halt the decline of biodiversity in UK.

However, the Isle of Man doesn't have a such plan, having not signed up to the Bio Diversity Convention held in Rio back in 1992

Director of the Manx Wildlife Trust, Duncan Bridges, says the Island is being left behind in the field of monitoring and helping to prevent the loss of its bio-diversity:
