Andrews had earlier approached a group of youths and made threats to them. He told his girlfriend he was going to kill her father, he hit her several times while she was driving him around and subsequently kicked her car.

His advocate said the defendant's former girlfriend had given birth to their son ten weeks earlier and she had denied him access. He was troubled young man who needed professional help and assistance.

Deemster Doyle told Andrews it was a truly terrifying ordeal for the victim, but he noted that he had pleaded guilty thereby saving her the trauma of re-living the nightmare.

Andrews, who was in the care of social services at the time, admitted he didn't know what to do when he lost his temper.
