A 17 year old youth who threatened to kill his girlfriend's father has been jailed by Deemster Doyle at a court of General Jail for a total of 2? years.

Daniel Sidney Andrews, care of the prison, admitted unlawful detention, threats to kill, actual bodily harm, affray and criminal damage.

Linda Watts, prosecuting, said on December 15th last year at around 9.30pm the defendant caused his former girlfriend to drive him around the countryside at a time when he had five knives on his person.

Andrews had earlier approached a group of youths and made threats to them. He told his girlfriend he was going to kill her father, hit her several times while she was driving him around and subsequently kicked her car.

His advocate said the defendant's former girlfriend had given birth to their son ten week's earlier, and she had denied him access. He was troubled young man who needed professional help and assistance.

Deemster Doyle told Andrew's it was a truly terrifying ordeal for the victim, but he noted that he had pleaded guilty, thereby saving her the trauma of re-living the nightmare.

Andrews, who was in the care of social services at the time, admitted that he didn't know what to do when he lost his temper.
