Two appear on deception charges

Two people have appeared before Deemster Doyle charged with offences of deception involving hundreds of thousands of pounds.

31 year old Wendy Jane Barton of Queen's Road in Onchan, pleaded not guilty to attempting to obtain ?19,721 by deception from Direct Line Insurance by making a false insurance claim between May and October 2005.

34 year old Peter Alan Douglas Joughin, also of Queen's Road, pleaded not guilty to the same offence.

He also pleaded not guilty to two further offences; one of attempting to obtain ?142,000 from Norwich Union Insurance Company on March 14th 2006 by making a false insurance claim, and then attempting to obtain pecuniary advantage- namely an insurance policy- from Norwich Union by giving false details.

That offence was alleged to have been committed on or about September 1st 2003.

Both defendants had their bail renewed to September 10th when they will appear for a trial date to be set.
