999 alternative may be trialled

Another emergency services number, to be used along with 999, could be introduced in the Isle of Man.

That's according to the Department of Home Affairs' Director of Communications, Robert Williamson, who says the idea will be given serious consideration.

The system has been used successfully in the United States, where people can dial 311 for minor emergencies and has been trialled in the United Kingdom.

Mr Williamson says it would ease the burden on the 999 number at crucial times:
