Democracy challenge by Bishop

by isleofman.com 20th August 2007
The Lord Bishop says he believes the Island needs a "slightly wider vision of what democracy is" compared to what exists at the moment.

Graeme Knowles was speaking as he prepares to leave the Island to take up his new appointment as Dean of St Paul's Cathedral in London.

Reverend Knowles says he believes the Island needs to "push the boundaries out a bit, and get away from a situation where the people select one person who is the only voice of democracy there is": (first audio clip)

Whilst he believes that in his role as Bishop of Sodor and Mann he has been able to help contribute to the governance of the Island, Reverend Knowles also admits to a degree of frustration at having to "play the game of politics": (second audio clip)
