Inspector disappointed in motorists

by isleofman.com 20th August 2007
The Head of Roads Policing on the Island says he's dismayed at the number of motorists who have been caught flouting the law since the introduction of his unit's new enforcement fleet.

Since the launch of the covert police cars on July 23rd, 110 people have been caught for offences such as failing to wear a seatbelt and using a mobile phone whilst driving.

The cars have also been involved in six high profile crime arrests.

Inspector Derek Flint says the use of the cars had been highly publicised and they'd even been featured on television. He had hoped motorists would take heed and avoid prosecution.

Those caught are issued with fixed-penalty tickets, and Inspector Flint says every ticket issued is another tragedy averted.

With the Manx Grand Prix now underway he says the message is pay heed, take it easy and drive with your seatbelt on and phone off.
